We had our trip to Carcassonne planned to coincide with the Bastille Day (Fete Nationale) on the 14th July and so booked our hotel a long time in advance. After staying in youth hostels for three weeks it was such a change to be in a luxurious hotel inside the cite of Carcassonne: ensuite, air conditioning with remote control, breakfast brought to us in bed :D. On the 13th July we had a tour of the castle and then watched the jousting tournament show that runs during the summer months.

Carcassonne is a medieval citadel in the South of France. (Here can be found some more detailed info: http://perso.wanadoo.fr/bbcp/english/) It is so very pretty and the weather was glorious! I felt so special actually staying inside the city walls.

The jousting tournament show was lots of fun, although more of a jazzy show than a truthful re-enactment. I got right into the booing and hissing and cheering!
